Usually for special occasions, "Padi Kolams" are the best. If you are perfect in free hand kolams, you can try some of the "Neli Kolams" from my blog. Put only "Kavi" and use wet rice flour batter, so that the kolams look divine with white and kavi. If you want to try with dots, check the below links:
