Kolam No.75

This Kolam is called "Hirudhaya Kamalam".

Put 11 dots vertically and horizontally. Then put 5 dots in between in all sides as shown above.

First join the dots as shown above in the four corners.

Then repeat joining the lines in the other four corners as above.

Complete the kolam by joining remaining dots as shown above.

Draw thick lines and leave as it is or fill with desired colours.

Dear Kamala,

Thnaks for your kolams. Do you have this same kolam (No.75) with nine dots. My mother used to do this and she passed away 30 years ago. I am trying to remember some of her kolams, one of which is the same kolam with nine dots.

With regards,

Sheela

Hi Sheela,

Thank you for visiting my site and your interest in Kolam. This Kolam is called Hirdaya Kamalam and normally drawn with 11 dots. I have redrawn this Kolam for you step by step. Please try and let me know.

Meantime, I will try with 9 dots and post that also shortly.

You can get this idhayakamalam kolam easily by joining the points 5,3,1,4,2 alternatively.

Dear Kamala,

I am still trying out the same kolam with nine dots, but was unsiccessful in doing it. Start with 1,3,5,2,4 and without leaving your hand one can go on till all the dots are joined. The same can be done for nine dots. My mother was a maths teacher so she used to do this herself. I hope soemone finds the number links for that kolam too,

Best regards,

Sheela
